Fight Body Issues with the Right Bra

Body issues are something that plague millions of American women on a daily basis. With a constant onslaught of images from our media of what the “ideal” female body should look like, American women are constantly struggling with diet and fashion in an attempt to come closer to this ideal. We compare ourselves with the women around us, and many of us are embarrassed about some feature or another that we feel prevents us from meeting this “ideal.” But ladies, this is far more normal than you might realize. Actress Olivia Munn revealed this week that she struggled with her own body image when she was younger, and today she’s recognized as one of the sexiest stars in Hollywood. Believe it or not, the right bra can go a long way toward reducing or eliminating your body issues.

Olivia Munn’s Struggle with Body Image
Olivia Munn participated in Fashion Week this week, and talked about how problems with her body image used to plague her when she was younger. She revealed that she was embarrassed by her figure, and used to wear long, loose shirts to look younger and hide her curves. “I hated becoming a woman for a long time, so I didn’t wear a bra for a long time,” she told the New York Post. Eventually, Olivia’s mother took her to Bloomingdale’s, told her to put on a bra and said she was throwing away all of Olivia’s oversized shirts. Olivia’s mother forced her to make a transformation she feared, but once Olivia gave in and began to embrace her feminine side, she found that her body issues didn’t hold her back anymore.

Body Issues are Common
Body issues are common, and women face social pressure to look a certain way everywhere they look. One study found that three minutes spent looking at women in a fashion magazine caused 70 percent of women to feel depressed, guilty and ashamed. The “average” size of women as portrayed by models is about 20 percent below the actual average weight in the United States, and that number is growing daily as the average weight creeps up.

Up to 50 percent of American women are trying to lose weight at any given time, and 78 percent of 17-year-old girls report that they are “unhappy with their bodies.” Over 12 million cosmetic surgical and non-surgical procedures are performed every year in the United States. Body issues plague millions of women.

The Right Bra can Help Resolve Body Issues
The most common body issues revolve around weight, curves, bust and stomach. The right bra can put all of these things into proportion and help resolve these body issues. A properly-fitted bra supports your bust up high, preventing sagging and drooping. It changes the silhouette; you’ll look and feel thinner in your clothes because of the way your clothes fall. Contrast that with a poorly-fitted bra where your bust droops. A poorly-fitted bra makes your breasts seem smaller, and also gives you a higher ratio of stomach-to-bust, making you feel thicker around the waist than you really are.

A well-fitted bra isn’t going to make all of your body issues go away, but it can make a huge difference in the way you look and feel. Try a properly fitted bra, and see if, like Olivia Munn, you can learn to love your curves.
