Holiday Shopping Guide to Bras – for Men!

Guys, have you ever wanted to get a bra for your lady but didn’t know where to start? There are a ton of style options, colors and fit profiles – and that doesn’t even count the challenge of finding the right size! Well, don’t worry, men – if you’ve ever wanted to shop for a bra for your lady, we’re here to help. With a little stealthy reconnoissance and some thought, you can get her a wonderful holiday gift that will make you both happy!

Finding Her Size
The biggest challenge that most men face when shopping for a bra is finding the right bra size. Guys, here’s a quick and dirty primer: the number in a bra size is the band size, which is determined by the distance around her chest (but not a direct measurement). The letter in the bra size is her cup size, which is the part of the bra that the breast fits into – kinda like a cup. The easiest and most surefire way to find her bra size is to sneak into her closet, dresser or the dirty clothes when she’s not around (but make sure she wouldn’t mind you doing this, or you could get yourself into trouble!) and check out her existing bras.

Not all designers size their bras alike, so it’s a good idea to check more than one bra to get a consensus on her size. Also, think about which bras seem to fit her the best. A well-fitted bra is one that holds her breasts firm and high, and which supports the breasts without them spilling out. If you can remember which bras fit her best, those bras are the best place to start to find the right size. The ratty old stretched out bra that barely fits and she saves until laundry day isn’t the bra you want to use for your size model. If you want to learn more about size and fit, check out our fit guidelines – they’ll give you an idea of what you’re looking for.

Pick a Style
This is where a lot of guys go wrong: picking a style. While it can be fun to get her sexy lingerie for the two of you to enjoy, a gift like that will be received in a completely different tone than getting her a genuinely good bra that she would pick for herself. One is fun and romantic, but may be construed as more a “gift for you,” while the other is something she’ll really appreciate. Think about how you want your gift to be perceived when you’re selecting a bra style.

To give her a bra she’ll really appreciate, pick a style similar to what she has in her wardrobe. If she mostly wears full-cup bras and you get her a demi bra, it may not provide the support or coverage she wants. It could be fun for you, but won’t get worn outside the bedroom. If that’s your goal, go for it! But if you want a gift that will become a part of her wardrobe, take a cue from her existing styles.
