In our “History of the Bra” series, we’ve explored the crazy lengths that women go to in order to fit in with fashion and look their best. In the name of beauty, women have bared their breasts, hidden them, bound them, emphasized them and worn a variety of garments designed to show the bust at its best. These garments have been uncomfortable at best, and downright dangerous at worst, with some of the precursors to the modern bra going as far as to cause deformation in the rib cage, punctured lungs, liver problems and difficulty breathing. In today’s society, many of the garments that women wear still emphasize looking good over comfort, but the tide is changing!
Looking Good vs. Feeling Good
Unfortunately, many women in today’s society have a misguided belief that in order to look good, they’ve got to be uncomfortable. This simply isn’t true. You can still look great AND feel great if you find the right bra. Women who want to look great may wear bras in the wrong size, bras in scratchy materials, bras with uncomfortable designs or other fit and comfort issues all in the name of “looking good.” And the moment that they come home, they take the bra off and put on a scraggly “comfortable” bra – or just go braless.
You don’t have to do this, ladies! There doesn’t need to be a disconnect between looking good and feeling good. In fact, if you find a bra that fits properly and is comfortable to wear, you’ll be in much better shape than if you’re suffering through an uncomfortable bra just to look good. When you find a comfortable bra that you don’t mind wearing, you’ll wear it longer; you won’t take it off the moment you get home in favor of an ill-fitting bra or no bra at all! And wearing a bra at home can help reduce stress on your ligaments, giving your bust additional longevity and ensuring you’ll continue to look great for years to come!
Comfortable Bras are Growing in Popularity

You’ll now find bras with wider straps, padded straps, multi-section cups, padded cups, softer materials, comfort fits; today’s bra manufacturers are incorporating a broad range of comfort features to accommodate the growing focus on comfortable bras.
