Last night was the Oscars – a long, often boring event punctuated by moments of excitement as our favorite actors, actresses and directors win these coveted awards. But the Oscars are known for more than just the awards – what the stars wear on this big night is one of the most-discussed topics before and after the event. This year’s lineup was an intriguing blend of classic cuts and simple austerity, and the wild and crazy fashions that always seem to find their way into a red carpet event. Who was your favorite best-dressed Oscar attendee?
Simplicity and Austerity Found a Place Among the Women
In an unusual (for the Oscars) trend, the women of the Oscars showed their true professionalism through the simplicity and austerity of their looks. Hair was worn short or close to the head; virtually non-existent were the prom-queen tendrils and shaggy, long-haired styles that actresses have sported on previous red carpets. Classic cuts and colors were the order of the day.

Jennifer Anniston shined in her silk tulle Valentino dress, proving that simple designs and bold colors really can rule the day.
It Wouldn’t be the Oscars Without Some Outrageous Dresses
It wasn’t all simple and classic, though – Amy Adams sported a full-skirted, powdery-gray silk Oscar de la Renta, leading the way for big prom-style gowns.
And then there was this trio, Halle Berry, Naomi Watts and Sandra Bullock, dazzling the crowds in their metallic dresses.

Cute and Whimsical Has a Place, Too!
If you missed Quvenzhané Wallis, you’ve just got to catch a snap of her great ensemble! She looked like a princess in her fabulous evening wear, but paired it with a whimsical Prada puppy purse that only one of Hollywood’s little darlings could pull off at a red carpet event.
