Over the past six weeks, I’ve been trying out various sports bras as I’ve trained for my first 5k run (this weekend – yikes!). I posted up reviews every week after running in each bra for the week, and now it’s time for the moment of truth: which sports bra wins for real-world running?
Le Mystere Energie Sport Bra 320
When I first reviewed the Le Mystere Energie Sport Bra 320, I had a few complaints about fit but I was happy with it otherwise, and even willing to recommend it to bigger women who need a good, supportive sports bra. After trying all the bras, though, it’s not my top pick.
Pros: Bra straps are infinitely customizable to get the perfect fit. The heather gray material is comfortable and warm.
Cons: This bra fits slightly like a minimizer bra, the cups are a bit large and I feel supported but not contained.
Elomi Energise Underwire Sports Bra 8040
I’ve loved the Elomi Energise Underwire Sports Bra 8040 since I first got it a few years ago. After trying all of these sports bras, though, it’s no longer my top pick for running. It’s still in my regular rotation for working out, though!
Pros: Very comfortable, creates a flattering silhouette and it dries extremely fast. Provides good support. Material is lightweight and breathable.
Cons: Doesn’t totally contain the breasts while running. I felt a bit of movement running in this bra, and that increased my fatigue overall.
Shock Absorber Level 4 D Plus Max Sports Bra Top B4490
I was excited to try the Shock Absorber Level 4 D Plus Max Sports Bra Top B4490, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. Definitely one of my top picks, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it for high-impact activities.
Pros: Super control and support, even while running. Bust is totally contained and locked down. Great moisture wicking and breathability.
Cons: Difficult to snap without help. Compresses the breasts and gives a “uni-boob” appearance. The neck and straps can show when you’re working out, which could be a problem for some women.
Moving Comfort Maia Underwire High Impact Spacer Sports Bra 350011
I love the comfort of the Moving Comfort Maia Underwire High Impact Spacer Sports Bra 35011! It’s great for running around and doing errands, or even wearing around the house. It’s also good for low to medium impact activities. But I can’t recommend it for running, unfortunately.
Pros: Fabulously comfortable. Most comfortable sports bra ever. Flattering fit and decent support. Soft fabric that is reasonably breathable and moisture-wicking.
Cons: Doesn’t prevent movement while running. Also, the neck is quite high – could be a problem for some women.
Enell Sports Bra
The Enell Sports Bra is one of the most highly rated running bras for full-busted women, and now I know why. It offers fabulous support and a heavy-duty construction that can stand up against even the fullest bust. I’m not sorry I bought it. It’s one of the top contenders for my 5k running bra. I’d definitely recommend it.
Pros: Very supportive, very contained. Definitely adequate for running.
Cons: Hot, not very breathable. Not as comfortable as some of the other options.
Ultimately, I’ve gotta name the Shock Absorber Level 4 D Plus Max Sports Bra Top B4490 as my top pick for a running bra for a fuller-busted 40F woman! This sports bra made me feel contained and bounce-free like none of the other bras I tried – but at the same time, it was comfortable and it moved with me, which is a huge asset in a high-activity sports bra. I would highly recommend this bra to any full-busted woman looking for a supportive sports bra – it’s my top pick, and I’ll be wearing this bra for my first 5k on Sunday! (Wish me luck!)
