Part 3: Breast Reconstruction Fitting: a Survivor’s Guide to Looking Great!

This week, we’ve been looking at the challenges of fitting reconstructed breasts after breast cancer. Women who undergo breast reconstruction face a wide range of challenges, and often have a difficult time finding well-fitted bras after reconstruction is complete. Yesterday we looked at some of the best types of bras for reconstructed breasts, and today we’re going to look at some of our top bra recommendations for women who have undergone breast reconstruction!

Our Favorite Freya Bras that Look – and Fit – Great Post-Reconstruction!

Freya is a brand that’s highly favored by women who have undergone breast reconstruction. Freya is great because their underwires fully encapsulate the breast, and can help prevent lateral movement. These bras also feature a natural, rounded cup that won’t look awkward with reconstructed breasts.

One of the top recommendations among breast cancer survivors is the Freya Pollyanna bra! The Freya Pollyanna Balcony Bra AA5922 features nice, wide cups that fit a reconstructed breast better than many other bras, and feminine sheer cup tops and lacy finish to make you feel truly fabulous. Pollyanna also comes in a soft cup version if you’re looking for something wire-free.

Another top pick is the Freya Arabelle Underwire Plunge Bra AA5721, and its companion the balcony style version in AA5731. This bra features sheer cups to give you an alluring style, but also the nice rounded cups and stay-put underwire that reconstructed breasts need.

Fabulous Fantasie Bras for Reconstructed Breasts

Fantasie has some great bra options for women who undergo breast reconstruction, too. Some of the Fantasie bras have slightly more pointed cups, though, so they might not be the best choice for women who are concerned about filling out the tips of the cups. The Fantasie of England Smoothing Seamless T-Shirt Bra 4510 is a favorite among women who want a simple molded-cup bra for women with large bust sizes.

If you’re looking for something more feminine, the Fantasie Belle Underwired Full Cup Bra 6001 offers pretty bow detailing, high-sheen undercups, sheer cup tops and beautiful embroidery to give it a womanly feel.

This Fantasie Elodie Underwired Bra with Side Support 2182 is a great option for women who have undergone reconstruction. The side support gives you even more peace of mind that the implants won’t migrate laterally. These cups are slightly more rounded and smooth, and they feature bottom-lined, three-part cups that provide excellent support and shaping.

Goddess Bras for the Fuller-Figured Women Who Undergo Reconstruction

The Goddess Keira Banded Underwire Bra 6090 is a hugely popular pick among fuller-figured women who undergo breast reconstruction. This bra comes in band sizes up to 46, and features wide cups with powernet slings designed to offer support – which will hold your breasts firmly in place. Keira also comes in a soft cup version in band sizes up to 56 if you’re looking for something wire-free.

Another popular pick is the Goddess Rose bra, which comes in three great variants: banded underwire bra, which offers max support and shaping; bandless underwire, which is great for women with shorter torsos; and soft cup, which provides great wire-free comfort.

Speaking of comfort, the Goddess Comfort Zone Soft Cup Front Close Bra 6150 is another top pick. This is a highly comfortable bra with good support, and women who love a soft cup in a comfortable style highly recommend this one.

Other recommendations include our Chantelle Bras – these high-quality, beautiful bras will make you feel feminine and beautiful, and they’ll provide the support you want while helping to prevent lateral movement. Two of the top recommendations in Chantelle are the Chantelle C Chic T-Shirt Bra 3581 and the Chantelle Amazone Lace Underwire Bras 2101.

Anita is also another great brand, which features a Care line that is tailored toward women with special medical needs. You can find some fabulous comfortable bras in the Anita lineup – particularly if you’re looking for sleep bras.

Bottom line: bra fit is the most important thing for women who have reconstructed breasts. Here at Big Girls’ Bras, we understand the challenges you face. It may take some time to find just the right bra for your body after your reconstruction is complete. But don’t give up – you’ll feel so much better once you find the right bra for you!
