As many of you probably already know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Organizations across the country are gearing up to bring awareness to this serious women’s health issue – you’ll be seeing a lot of that pink ribbon in the next 30 days. Here at Big Girls Bras, we feel strongly about supporting this cause – after all, breasts are our business! But as women, our interest is more personal. According to the CDC, breast cancer is the second most common cancer in women, and it’s the fifth leading cause of death. The most recent statistic is that 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer over the course of her lifetime, so this is an issue that warrants serious awareness.
Big Girls Bras Partners with Lisa Boccard Breast Cancer Fund
To help highlight Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Big Girls Bras will be posting some related blog articles and some relevant topics in our email newsletters this month. We feel it’s important that women know the risks, how to help yourself through early detection, and ways you can feel more feminine as a surviver of breast cancer.
But we’re also giving back financially to help the cause. During the month of October, Big Girls Bras is donating $2 from the sale of each and every Anita, Aviana and Carnival bra. We’re showing our support through the Lisa Boccard Breast Cancer Fund. Their mission is to provide funding for women who are unable to afford screening mammograms, high-quality breast imaging and biopsies. Early detection is the key to surviving breast cancer, and many low-income women lack access to early detection tools. This is a shortcoming that the Lisa Boccard Breast Cancer Fund seeks to address, and it’s how we’ve chosen to give back to our local community. You Can Give Back for Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Every little bit helps to fight this disease, and there’s a lot you can do to help out during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Many organizations hold 5k or 10k races and walks to raise awareness and funds, so you can check for one of these events in your local community. Depending on where you live, you might also find charity dinners, golf tournaments, poker runs – there’s something for everyone if you want to find your own way to help this month.
Whether you buy one of our donation-eligible bras, do an event of your own to give back, or even just do a self-exam to make sure your breasts are healthy – don’t miss out on Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October! Keep an eye out for the pink ribbon, and stay tuned for the related tips and articles we’ll be publishing in the coming weeks.
