My Sports Bra Choices for a 5k Running Program

As I shared on Wednesday, I’m going to be running a 5k at the end of October. The training sessions I’ll be doing for the next 6 weeks seem like a perfect opportunity to try out a bunch of sports bras for running! Over the past few days, I’ve poured over the available sports bras, and which ones will work for me – a 40E/F, depending on the brand. I’ve narrowed it down to 5 sports bras that I’m going to try over the next 6 weeks, and here’s what I picked and how I decided!

Elomi Energise Underwire Sports Bra 8040
I was first introduced to the Elomi Energise Underwire Sports Bra 8040 bra during my interview and fit session with Eveden fit expert Frederika Zappe. This was the first sports bra I’d ever tried that actually offered a sufficient level of support for me, and made me feel like I could be active when wearing it! It fits well, and I took it on a 4-month motorcycle trip through the Americas where it quickly became my favorite bra for comfort, support, moisture-wicking and quick drying. I’ve worn it in 5k training sessions since then, and it does pinch a bit under the arm. Looking forward to seeing how it stacks up to the others.

Le Mystere Energie Sport Bra 320
When I decided to start training for a 5k this spring, I thought I should probably have more than one sport bra! Plus I was interested in finding something that didn’t pinch under the arms. So my next running sport bra was the Le Mystere Energie Sport Bra 320. The band fits snugly and feels really supportive, and I like the adjustable straps that let you customize your fit. But the cups don’t fit perfectly – I had a little gapping at the top – so I’m not sure I’m getting optimal support from this bra.

Enell Sports Bra
The Enell Sports Bra was the first new sports bra I’m adding for this comparison. Big Girls Bras is doing a promotion right now in conjunction with the Susan G Komen foundation – when you purchase an Enell Bra in Hope Pink, you get an Enell Envirosax tote bag (while supplies last) and 10% of the purchase price is donated to FORCE, Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered. This is a great cause, and Enell is well-loved by a ton of full-busted women, so it was an easy choice.

Shock Absorber Level 4D Plus Max Sports Bra Top B4490
I’ve written a ton about the Shock Absorber Level 4D Plus Max Sports Bra Top B4490. It makes it into most of my sports bra roundups for running and high-impact activities; it has a great reputation and the women who review it seem to love it. I’m really looking forward to trying it out for myself – I’m kinda expecting this to be one of my top picks after I’ve tried all my new sports bras!

Moving Comfort Maia Underwire High Impact Spacer Sports Bra 350011
Moving Comfort is a newer line that we’ve added this spring, and I’ve been really eager to find out more about the brand, and how the Moving Comfort Maia Underwire High Impact Spacer Sports Bra 350011 in particular might stand up for running. The combination encapsulation and compression style sounds perfect for my bust size, and I’m hoping the DriLayer Xsupport fabric helps keep me cooler and drier. I’m really looking forward to trying it out – the women who have reviewed it so far seem to love it!

Over the next 6 weeks, I’ll be posting a review of each bra at the end of the week, and when it’s all wrapped up, I’ll post my favorite – the one I’ll wear for my 5k. Stay tuned as I see how these sports bras stand up in real-world use!
